spent four days in magical Florence, which reminded me of why and how much I love drawing and re-inspired me for art history. On that note, I returned home to offers from Edinburgh and UCL. Back to work now of course, but with a much clearer goal!

UCL interview was more of a pleasant conversation. my interviewer happened to like Kathe Kollwitz's works too, and brought in some example pieces for discussion (even though this was a German interview and not for art history at all). Then we went on to Katharina Blum and had both a lot to exchange about the book. As for speaking in German, she must've given me 3 questions before the phone rang. Wrong number. Good timing.

- finishing my IB art course, such that I'm hurriedly putting together my last final pieces. My "exam", i.e. crucial interview with an examiner (ahh!) is on the 14th of March, by when my exhibition has to has to be ready.

- my application to London universities: UCL interview for German & History of Art is on this Wednesday. I'm also filling in the BA Questionnaire for the Courtauld Institute. Together with that, I will have to send them a written assignment, most probably my Extended Essay on Max Beckmann. All this by 1 February!

- I swear there was something else, art related

- while I'm remembering what it was, have a look at my latest blog entry rugileg.blogspot.com/2010/01/i… (this is not another song to keep you hanging on the phone line)

kind regards

is the title of an exhibition in the national gallery I went to on an october sunday.
spanish 17th century paintings and for their time, astonishingly realistic sculptures

sighh

one mastery of a presentation, first of all. you descend down the wide spacious stairs into the basement, thinking no one else knows of this place, and the walls blacken. showing your ticket at the entrance, you take an oath of silence, for upon that moment nobody says another word. three different depictions of Christ on the cross are lit up beside each other. gradually, any religious doubts you may have had, leave your mind entirely, for when accompanied by the specially composed music, the effect the art has on you is almost daunting.

and ohh, at the end of the audio tour, when the male voice offers you to go around again to attempt to see the paintings as sculptures and the sculptures as paintings, you think

'I want to be a part of this'
